QST Master’s Student Receives Grant to Develop Open-Source Quantum Compiler

Varun Seshadri, a student in the QST Master’s program, along with two undergraduate students from Simon Fraser University, has received a grant from the Unitary Fund to develop a lattice surgery quantum error correction compiler. To cater to beginners, advanced users, and researchers, the compiler is accessible through a public web interface and developed as an open-source package.

A prototype is available on https://latticesurgery.com. A visualization tool for the surface code patches is available on the website, to help understand how the logical states (patches) evolve during the execution of the quantum circuit.
