In an age of AI, Justin Mullins and Mark Buchanan teach the skills to produce scientific papers of the highest quality suitable for the world’s top journals.

OnlineAI is changing the way scientists think about writing and most journals now have guidelines for how to use it. The scientific writing workshop focuses on developing high-quality scientific communication skills, emphasizing the structure of sentences, paragraphs, abstracts, and entire papers, while integrating guidance on responsible AI use in accordance with evolving journal policies. Through interactive sessions, practical exercises, and insights into the publication process, participants learn to craft manuscripts suitable for top-tier journals, with a particular emphasis on effective prompt engineering and ethical AI application.
About the workshop leaders:
Mark Buchanan is a physicist and science writer based in Europe. A former editor with the international science journal Nature and also New Scientist, he is the author of four books and numerous articles exploring the ideas of modern physics. He writes occasionally for the New York Times and has a monthly column in the journal Nature Physics.
Justin Mullins is a consultant editor at New Scientist where he has covered topics ranging from the Chernobyl accident to the emergence of quantum computing. He has been New Scientist’s San Francisco bureau chief, Boston Editor and Technology Editor. He is a former teaching fellow at the University of California, Berkeley.
