Research WebsiteIt’s fascinating to discover what quantum physics is teaching us about the deep structure of reality.
Description
Research focus: quantum foundations, interpretations of quantum mechanics, the many worlds interpretation, wave function realism, participatory realism
My book, The World in the Wave Function (Oxford University Press, 2021), develops and defends the wave function realist interpretation of quantum theories inspired by Schrödinger’s early wave interpretation of quantum mechanics. A new volume, Local Quantum Mechanics: Everett, Many Worlds, and Reality (Oxford University Press, 2026) explores how Everettian quantum mechanics can achieve a local interpretation, avoiding the “spooky action at a distance” that is supposed to be a consequence of quantum entanglement according to other approaches. Most recently, I have turned to developing the participatory realism of John Wheeler, and frameworks inspired by it, including QBism. An initial sketch is presented in a recent essay “Do Our Observations Make Reality Happen?” (Nature June 2025).
