MCQST Conference Support

Fostering Scientific Exchange

Conference Support is available to all MCQST members (associated and core), with the goal of fostering scientific exchange. Through this funding line, we support a wide range of conferences and workshops that bring together MCQST research groups and/or enable the Munich quantum community to engage with international guests and collaborators.

MCQST typically funds events with up to €5,000 per event. In exceptional cases, higher funding may be granted depending on budget availability for particularly innovative and high-impact events that significantly enhance MCQST’s international visibility.

What is supported?

In addition to financial support, the MCQST could assist with the organization and logistics of the event, including:

  • Guidance on spending regulations in accordance with DFG rules
  • Identifying and booking suitable venues and catering services
  • Technical support during the event (e.g., recording scientific talks for publication on MCQST’s YouTube talk repository)
  • Outreach support, including the creation of visuals, assistance with event websites, and event promotion (where applicable)

To ensure effective support, the MCQST Office must be informed well in advance and provided with all relevant details of the planned event.

Eligibility

All MCQST members, both core and associated members, are eligible to apply for Conference Support.

What types of events are eligible?

Events eligible for funding have to fulfil the following criteria:

  • All events must be aligned with MCQST’s scientific goals
  • The event must bring together several MCQST groups (at least three)
  • The event must promote scientific exchange with the community, e.g., via the possibility to have contributed talks or posters
  • Events should either bring outstanding international researchers to Munich or increase MCQST’s international visibility

All events supported by MCQST should, in principle, be open to all interested members of the MCQST community. Any participation restrictions should be transparent and may apply only where necessary, for example, due to limited capacity or the specific focus of an event.

How to apply

To apply for Conference Support:

  • Complete the Conference Support Form
  • Send the completed form to support[at]mcqst.de

Applications are reviewed by the MCQST Executive Committee (EC), which decides on the allocation of support. The EC meets regularly, every 2–3 months, so please make sure to send us your application as early as possible.
