TUM
Positions: 2-3 years (PostDoc) & 3-4 years (PhD)
Location: School of Natural Sciences (Physics), Technical University of Munich
Starting Date: October 2025
We invite applications for one Postdoctoral and one PhD position in the field of quantum simulation. The successful candidates will join the newly established research group of Dr. Torsten V. Zache at the Technical University of Munich.
Our group is broadly interested in the theoretical development and application of quantum technologies to fundamental physics questions. The advertised positions will be part of the project “QS-Gauge: quantum simulation of lattice gauge theories”, funded by the Emmy Noether programme of the DFG. The project’s overarching goal is the development of digital quantum algorithms for the simulation of non-abelian lattice gauge theories.
We are looking for highly motivated individuals, with the desire to perform theoretical physics research at the interface of quantum information, condensed matter and high-energy physics. A strong background and interest in one or more of the following topics is desirable:
- Quantum computing with qudits, quantum error correction and fault-tolerance
- Quantum optics of trapped ions and Rydberg atom arrays
- Numerical tensor network techniques
- Topological order and (de)confinement in string-net models
- Quantum field theory, lattice QCD
To apply, please send your application via email with the title “PostDoc application” or “PhD application” to
application[at]zachegroup.com. Your application should contain:
- Motivation letter (max. 1 page)
- CV (including list of publications and copies of academic certificates/transcripts)
- Contact details of at least one/two (PhD/PostDoc) potential referees
Our group is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and equitable research environment and we warmly welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, religion, or nationality.
